As basketball coaches, we’re often faced with having to teach basic fundamentals along with game strategies, all with very limited court time. I often felt like I needed to spend a little time on everything rather than focus on one particular skill, defense, or offensive play. 

I believed that if I could only get in front of my players away from the court and teach them my plays, in my own coaching style and voice, it would have a huge impact on our practices and our games. There was some doubt in my mind about whether my players would even watch what I had created for them, let alone learn from it. I couldn’t have been more wrong.

My players taught me that they not only found the time to watch the plays I had created, they also had the desire and ability to learn them on their own. They would literally watch the plays dozens of times, learning not only their own roles, but the roles of their teammates as well!

We weren’t the most talented or physically gifted team, but I knew that with our gained confidence and skills we could take on any opponent and win!
